The thoughts tickle some and frighten others: a third female or thirteenth male president of the Philippines.

But after a year, on May 2010 national elections, the possibility will exist. Anyways, the Filipinos were all into voting several years past and yet don’t know the true cost of being faced with the dilemma of having to select leaders for the good governance of their beloved country.

Money, relationship and showing of deep gratitude - these are just among the many influences affecting the voters’ volition of who will be their representatives. I hope it will not happen in the coming election.

Meanwhile, a lot of experts, economists and analysts have given their different definitions and beliefs - about the problems and solutions to the constant and uncontrolled election situations - nevertheless, they can’t easily pave the way for them (politician and non-politician) to simmer down as they think of the orderliness and consequences of this vital happening of a country.

And I… I really am one of them. I can’t avoid myself from thinking of the possible beneficial and just contribution to my country and to my fellow countrymen, as well.

Though almost, if not all, believed that election is all about money, power and personal political interests of the aspirants and elected as well, protection of democracy and good governance are still of significance in pursuing it nationally.

In 2010, I will be going to exercise the constitutional right given to me, my right to suffrage. Yes, this would be my first time to vote for a national elections but I can’t say that I know nothing about politics.

Moreover, I really am privileged to enjoy such freedom. I still believe in the power of our choice of what nation are we building and who are we becoming in the future.

Election for me is a socio-political activity wherein a qualified and self-willed individual represents himself, his country, and the will of God. Whatever has done by every person reflects his government and nation.

Being a student and a defender of democracy, I believed that election is a conviction - it is of significance to the commitment and service to the society everyone could have to be able to pull through whatever my come along the way. It is a conviction from the heart that our country deserves better; we deserve to step forward towards progress and genuine development. And, it simply means, participants has his/her own responsibility for the common good, solidarity and development of his/her land and fellow countrymen.

God made the people and their dwellings. But He gave them the choice to be happy. Thus, the picture of happiness and fulfillment he wants to achieve is dependent on him; his choice to do right during election, that is. If he does anything against the will of God he will never be happy as much as his needs will never be sated.

We may say that God is merciful but he can change things and He never let the evil interests and deeds win.

Again, I can contribute through encouraging you people to represent yourself, your country and the will of God. Let us show how we value our country, democracy, freedom, everyone and God.

So, may every voter like me follow his/her heart in choosing his/her representative. May every participant and non-participant do what he thinks is right for more truthful election where the would-be public servants serve as true public servants - they shall serve rather than they will be served.

Finally, let us all remember that being a good example is the best gift and legacy everyone could give.

And these mere acts serve no just the mechanism for leadership but these encourage division and conflicts among the people. These unite and divide, build and destroy, and make and unmake people.So, what we need is a closer scrutiny of every aspirants’ interests, records, advocacy and vows. It meant a lot in choosing our representative who could boost his chance sizably, and who could commit himself into a true serving and leading his people to a genuine development and progress everyone dreamed of.Meanwhile, read and evaluate the following aspirants’ life in the service and decide carefully who is likely qualified to lead the country.Let’s first take our six senators. They don’t have the same platforms, perhaps, but they are all in legislative office.They are, in he gossamer web of Philippines politics, having been in public office for how many years.Six members of the Senate, a chamber that has traditionally been the training gro8ung for would-be presidents. They belong to groups that were launched largely to suit their personal political plans.

Francis "Chiz" Escudero



Filipinos came to know him for his idol face like Bamboo Manalac, the vocalist of the popular rock band in the country, Bamboo.
Francis Joseph Guevara Escudero or Chiz was born on October 10, 1969. He comes from a political family. His father was a former congressman and agriculture secretary. He studied at the University of the Philippines from kindergarten to college where he took his AB Political Science and Law. He obtained his Masters degree in International and Comparative Law at Georgetown University Law Center in 1996.
In 1998, he began his political career at the young age of 28 where he served as 3-term Representative of the 1st District of Sorsogon. Definitely, he belonged to a younger generation of politicians.
In 2007, he ran for senator and earned the second highest number of votes. He campaigned and addressed three issues - jobs, income and prices of commodities.
For how many years in the public service, he was honored and bestowed with awards both from here and abroad. These global organizations recognized and acknowledged the significant contribution, commitment to the welfare of his countrymen.
Believing that being young is not the determinant to be a future leader, Chiz continue working and inspiring people to participate in every government program which they think is right and according to law.
Moreover, what he has done and "haves" to be contributed, Chiz from the Bar to House of Representative and to Senate remains the same - the "Boses ng Pilipino".

Sen. Chiz speaks up about leadership

I am a journalism student from the University of Eastern Philippines and presently a student trainee of Lloyd Luna Communication.

An aspired trainee - working with the country’s foremost career philosopher, Lloyd Luna - and a citizen soon to participate national election, I really am pushed to contribute for a participative campaign opened both to the public and aspirants. With this purpose I’d gone through days of reaching out the presidentiabes and ask for their views, beliefs regarding such national happening.

Moreover, the information and views that I got were not set at nought, but were posted for the viewers and subscribers of our blog to be able to closely scrutinize and make a right decision upon learning each motivational scheme for a change and development.

Meanwhile it is rich for me to be accommodated in the senator’s office.

Anyways, I sat down with a computer in front and a public figure on the other line. Here is the result of the question ad answer part. Make way for Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero.

Joradel: You are known for years of experience in politics; armed with skills and knowledge, had you plan your life this way?

Sen. Chiz: Modesty aside, my gift with words and reasoning (logic) easily led me to friendly and intellectual arguments. This naturally led me to be a debater in college. This debating skill led me to my taking up law and becoming a lawyer. Armed with skill it was natural for me to win over people who would agree with my argument. But words without integrity would be just that, empty and meaningless words. Early on I realized that for words, arguments or promises to to be effective it should be accompanied with integrity on the part of the person saying those words. To be a person with integrity I learned from my parents. Meaning, mean what you say or say what you mean, and, practice what you preach. At a young age I had an idea of what politics is all about because of the exposure of my dad in politics. My attending the University of the Philippines also has something to do with my being involved in politics, especially in College and in my law proper. My being a husband and father has added another dimension or vantage point for me to see, analyze, look, and judge things or situations that confront me now. Different personalities I have met, political or otherwise, have also influenced or taught me important things in life. All of these things, in one way or another, helped shaped me what I am today. I continue to evolve on a daily basis. Hopefully, for the better.

Joradel: For your untarnished leadership and exemplary achievements, you were awarded and recognized globally. Did it help or motivate you to work harder?

Sen. Chiz: I do not consciously do things expecting to be awarded later on. I try to do things to the best of my ability. If I am given an award for the things that I do I treat it as a bonus. Not that I treat awards or recognitions lightly, on the contrary, I value them for I am reminded that whatever good things you do in life highly respected organizations or institutions. local or international, would give you a pat on the shoulder. I admit it feels good and motivates me to keep on going.

Joradel: You are eyeing the presidential derby, do you see yourself busier than the regular days in the senate?

Sen. Chiz: Up to now I have not made up my mind to run for the position of president. As usual I am busy i legislative work. From time to time I consult the people in different parts of the country as my busy schedule will allow me.

Joradel: It is one year before election, how will you go about courting the support of the people and the potential political allies, or should I say, have you started cultivating your bailiwick?

Sen. Chiz: If ever I run for a higher position next year, the courting or winning of votes will have to be done during the campaign period. That is the ethical and legal period to do the campaign. Trying to win political leaders o anybody’s side is the job of political parties. In my case, NPC.

Joradel: Your supporters could say that this is your chance to be in that position, how will you boost your chance sizably?

Sen. Chiz: Same answer as #2.

Joradel: What do you think is the good attitude or principle a leader should possess?

Sen. Chiz: The first and foremost requirement is genuine love and care for he people. All other things flow from this - things may not be perfect and the worst that could happen is that the project is wrong but the intention is good. In this situation, the people can understand.

Joradel: As a public servant, how will you describe yourself? Are you an organization person, people person?

Sen. Chiz: Forgive me for refusing to answer this question. As a public servant and senator, it is not for me to give myself a grader. Rather, it is the people I serve who should rate what I do.

Joradel: Any last message to the public?

Sen. Chiz: Participate in the political process and educate yourself as to the issues confronting our society today. Closely scrutinize those who are posturing for next year’s election and be guided with the word “integrity”. Thank you!
